3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is perfect for off-roading and taking on terrains, from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They are also easier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.
Kath who is the editor of MadeForMums' reviews, tested one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac and on various terrains. Read her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies, with their centre of gravity balanced by the weight of your child in the seat, are typically more stable than three-wheelers. Three-wheel buggies are worth considering as they can handle everything from rough terrain to busy streets.
For a buggy that's easy to handle and won't let you down on muddy roads, opt for one with large rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. These all-terrain buggies often have pneumatic tyres, too. They are great at handling non-paved surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
They are also excellent buggies to run with since they offer excellent stability on more rough terrain and help you stay with your running partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs, and many of them have spring suspension built-in so that your child will enjoy a smooth ride.
A stroller with three wheels can be a challenge to maneuver due to its large frame. It is more difficult to maneuver through doorways and narrow spaces than a 4-wheeler. 3 wheel stroller lightweight have addressed this problem with clever design that flips the wheels upwards when they are not being used. This reduces their size and makes them easier to fit through doorways.
You'll also need to consider whether your buggy is suitable for your little one from birth, or if you're planning on using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. If so, make sure it has a lie-flat position and whether the design is compatible with other seats and buggy boards (if you'd like to add a toddler onboard). Many 3-wheelers fold flat and can be positioned upright when collapsed - handy if you have an insufficient car boot or only a little storage space at home. Some will require you to remove the front wheel when folding in order to fit in even more compact space.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies usually offer better manoeuvrability than four-wheeled pushchairs. Many of them have a swivelling wheel on the front that allows you to steer and change direction using only one hand. Some models have locks on the wheel to offer stability on rough terrain. Certain models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, in case you want to expand your family.
If you're planning to take your three-wheeled bike off the roads, you should consider choosing one with air-filled tyres (also called pneumatic tyres) which can cope with the toughest terrain. They will require regular pumping but they'll be more durable than solid tyres and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a a lockable swivelling front wheel to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers may be heavier than four-wheeled buggies due to the single wheel on the front. Check to see if the model you're considering can fit into the boot of your car and can be sat up should it be required. Certain models can be folded using one hand, and can be raised when folded. This can save space in a small car boot.
A quality three-wheel pushchair will be used on all terrains from busy roads to forest tracks. It's important to consider how you will use it every day. If you'll be running the school run, it must be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you intend to jog with it, make sure it has a swivelling "stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will keep the ride smooth.
MFM reviewer Kath discovered her three-wheeled buggy to be able to perform well on both urban and countryside walks. She noted that it could navigate cobbles, rough paths and bumpy pavements effortlessly and felt pleasant to jog with too. It's also a great option for day trips since it is packed with storage space. It has an ample, spacious zip-top covered basket as well as an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can also be adapted to accommodate babies from birth using an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, as well as being compatible with a variety of popular second seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary difference between a fabric sling and a modular seats is that the fabric sling sits comfortably inside the frame of the buggy rather than being positioned on top as a modular seat would. This enables a much more ergonomically correct posture for the baby that instantly gives an lower centre of gravity and a more appropriate height. This leads to a smoother push, a less hefty curb-pop (you don't have to exert as much effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and increased stability and balance.
These buggy seats also feature Sling fabrics that are simple to clean and durable. Developed specifically with sling chair applications in mind they are UV resistant and extremely breathable. They also have excellent durability and are easy to clean with mild soap and water.
If you're a jogger or you like off-roading, an all-terrain buggy is more suited to your needs than a four-wheel buggy. These styles have a wider base and are more stable. They also use air-filled tyres to provide smooth and easy movement on rough terrain.

3-wheel buggies are more stable than strollers with four wheels, making them ideal for off-road or all-terrain adventures. The large, extremely maneuverable front wheel enables agile and smooth motion, while the tyres are typically filled with air and have suspension, which gives you a great ride on the roughest of roads and trails. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they are with 4 wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
Often 3-wheel prams are popular choice for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their children as they offer great agility and are more streamlined than their 4 wheel counterparts.
